Good concept, but limited and repetive loops
The app has a "mix pad" where you drop sounds and then those sounds move around with configurable speed in a configurable radius, which is a great concept with which you can make some great ambient sounds. The problem is that the loops they give you are so short, that you end up with this repeating pattern that is so easy for your mind to lock on to that it becomes more distracting than anything else.
I got this an a tool to make ambient sound while I work, and for that it is not at all useful. There needs to be much more randomness here IMO, although perhaps the predictable, stuttering nature of the sounds actually make it so that people focus on the sound only, and perhaps that helps them fall asleep?? In any case, the name "White Noise" is very misleading. It is not white, nor pink for that matter.
It does make a decent alarm clock, if you prefer to wake up to a 10 second loop of beach sounds rather than a "beep beep beep." Perhaps by using the "WhiteNoiseCreator" (available on the devs site) one could make some longer loops that overlap less, but even then, tools like ChatterBlocker or even just tracks played in iTunes seem to be a simpler alternative.
I still give it two stars for the great implementation of the mix pad, and were that a stand-alone app that allowed using arbitrary audio files, I would give it four or five.
